Shoshanna: Consider the Lilies (Luke 12:27)

Statement of Faith

We spent a long time trying to decide what to put here. It would be easy enough to come up with a list of specific "affirmations" and list them, but that seems so cut and dried and it doesn't really say much about God or why we choose to follow Christ.

We thought about what it means to be Christian and how we feel about the "extras" that so many people want to attach to the name "Christian" (and how if you don't believe X or you do believe Y, you are/aren't a "real" Christian). Finally, we decided to cut right to the chase and define our faith primarly from Scripture. This is the basis and foundation of our beliefs. Everything else is commentary.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God-- not the result of works, so that no one may boast.
       Eph 2:2-9 NRSV

But what does it say? "The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.
       Rom 10:8-11 NRSV

For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, "The one who is righteous will live by faith."
Rom 1:16-17 NRSV
